Introducing Life Cycle of a Chicken to Preschoolers

We are learning about birds this month, and the first activity we did was to look into the life of a chicken.  Chicken, especially a hen is a popular subject for bird study because it’s convenient and always available for nature-study.  Take for example in our case, Vito got really interested into chicken during our visit to the park weeks ago.  He just can’t stop talking about his experience with the chicken in the park, so I decided to borrow some books in the library about chicken so we can talk about this bird more.

Learning Letter Sounds

One of the struggles of parents when dealing with early literacy for children is on how they can teach them of the letter sounds.  Of course, it’s easy to memorize and recite the alphabet, but what about the phonic sounds it creates?  In other teaching method, like Montessori, the focus is more on learning the letter sounds first rather than the name of the letter.  Letter sounds or phonics are the basic foundation of reading and with the child’s knowledge early on in life, they can easily learn how to read and decode letter sound combinations.

Now let us share to you one of the fun ways we teach our kids of the letter sounds, by matching it to their favourite animals!

The appearance of the honey bees in our front and backyard has led us to look into the lives of these beautiful creatures who are the main source of honey.  Vito is terrified of them but not Mavi.  We were out the other day catching a few of them, observing how they produce the buzzing sound and freed them up again.
